Getting there: Miyako Airport (MMY): about 3h25m from Tokyo Haneda, 2h45m from Osaka Kansai and 55 minutes from Naha. Shimojishima Airport (SHI), connected to Miyako by bridge, handles low-cost Jetstar and Skymark flights and a direct flight from Seoul.
Seasons: Busiest in summer (July–August) and Golden Week. October–March is quieter and cheaper. Subtropical climate, warm all year, with typhoon risk from about June to October.
